About the COAST Restoration Mapper

The COAST Restoration Mapper is intended to support the "Select Areas" component of COAST. This mapper provides CBP partners with tools to select areas to enhance restoration management actions. Managers can use this information in conjunction with additional information on local water-quality problems to select areas to enhance actions that will restore water quality in the Bay and local streams.

The Nutrient Yield Mapper (NYM) Tool

The NYM tool is used to map the Spatial Distribution of Nutrient Yields or nutrient "loading rates" (kg/ha/yr) in your watershed. For instance you may want to show watersheds with a high Total Phosphorous nutrient yield relative to other waterhseds in your Tributary Strategy Basin. This tool can help you identify geographical areas to start implementing best management practices. Start by selecting a watershed or State on the NYM By Basin or State tabs and then define what type of nutrient and source you want to see in your map window. This tool uses USGS the late 90's SPARROW version 3 model results. Click here for more about Chesapeake SPARROW or here for the USGS Fact Sheet - SPARROW Modeling

Saving Results

There are two methods for saving your results in the mapper.

  1. 1. Use the "Save Results" link on the By Basin or By State tabs
  2. 2. Right click on the map frame and choose "save image as"

The "Save Results" link will only save the SpaRROW quartile data and the other map layers will be excluded. To save the view in your map frame, please use the "save image as" option.
